Company History

Matti Rouse Apparel was started in October of 1997 by Stevo Johnson.  The dream was financed by the sale of just one t-shirt.  Johnson cashed in his employee stock withholdings in pursuit of starting what he considers to be the African American version of Gucci & Louis Vuitton. Stevo voted best dressed in high school, has managed Chess King, Merry Go Round, Jean West and Footlocker Stores.  After being a million dollar sales associate for multiple retail chains, Stevo decided to leave his management position at Foot Locker Stores to pursuit his dreams.   At an early age of just 21 years old, Stevo rented convention centers and gave some of the biggest fashion & hair shows in the upstate New York region.  He also became the "Hood Stylist" providing wardrobe to all the Beauticians, Barbers & hood ballers. Stevo became the fashion editor for Don Diva Magazine before becoming one of the lead writers for the magazine.  He's been featured in a number of Magazines including Ebony Magazine where he's also doubled as a freelance writer.  The door of exposure opened when he met Rhon Padmore then celebrity stylist for Mary J. Blige.  From that opportunity Stevo got the opportunity to learn styling first hand working along side Rhon.  His very first video shoot he assisted was Mary J. Blige's "Family Affair".  Overwhelmed and overjoyed, the elevation of fashion designer emerged with ambition, determination, drive and learning to motiviate his self on days when he felt completely burned out or disconnected.  Stevo has attended Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, London Fashion Week, Rip The Runway & The Magic Show in Las Vegas.  His hardworking spirit earned his a two time guest of the Oprah Winfrey Show and The Talk on CBS.  Matti Rouse has been worn by a number of A list celebrities and a feature on a number of music video shows as well as BET.
